Scuba Diving InstructionOpen Water Diver

Our Open Water Scuba Diver program follows PADI® requirements for instruction and training. The course consists of classroom sessions, swimming pool practice and open water dives. When you complete this program, you earn lifetime certification as a Scuba Diver and are ready for underwater

In class, diving theory and safety concepts are introduced and discussed. Material is presented in five parts or "modules", using a book and video tape. Each module is then supplemented with discussion and instructor enhancement. During class time, you will have the opportunity to become familiar with scuba equipment.

Specific skills are introduced and practiced during 2 or more pool sessions. Each skill is rehearsed and then demonstrated underwater by the instructor. You are provided ample time to practice and play until you are comfortable.

Four open water dives conducted over 2 days are required. These dives take 30 to 40 minutes each. During these real dives in one of our area lakes (or on a Caribbean Island paradise), you will interact with the aquatic environment while performing some of the same skills practiced in the swimming pool.

The charge for the Open Water Diver course is $300. This includes all books and materials, a personalized dive log and use of all equipment.

On occasion, a student may wish to complete the class and pool work only. Cost for this "Part I" is $235.00.  You will be provided a Open Water Diversreferral form to take on vacation where another PADI instructor can complete the "Part II" open water dives with you. (**Caution** Part II dives are very expensive when conducted by a Caribbean resort instructor, often $200-$300.)

We recommend this course be taken over several days or weeks, and not crammed into one weekend. This allows time for material to be forgotten and then refreshed, questions to form and be answered, etc. All classroom and open water dives will be arranged to fit your schedule. Winter pool sessions will be scheduled as close as possible to your preference.

Advanced Open Water Diver

Our Advanced Open Water Diver program follows PADI® requirements. They provide the novice diver with a structured, well-supervised means to gain additional experience. You will be involved in various underwater tasks which will help broaden your awareness of the environment and improve your capability and confidence as a diver.

The Advanced Open Water program is an in-water, performance based course. It includes three required "core" dives - a night dive, a deep dive and an underwater navigation dive. Two other elective dives are also conducted. Choices for these elective dives include:

  • Boat Dive
  • Underwater Naturalist Dive
  • Multilevel Dive
  • Search and Recovery Dive
  • Drift Dive
  • Performance Buoyancy Dive
  • Wreck Dive
  • Underwater Photography Dive
  • Enriched Air / Nitrox Dive
  • Coral Reef Ecology Dive

The manual has a module introducing each dive specialty. There is no formal class work, but completion of the specialty Knowledge Rescue Diver CourseReview is required. Prior to each dive, there will be a briefing which will emphasize safety issues and techniques which are unique to the special circumstances of the dive.

The charge for the Advanced Open Water course is $150 ($100 if conducted on a dive trip to the Caribbean). The dives must be performed over a minimum time of 2 days.

Rescue Diver

The PADI®  Rescue Diver course helps make the serious subject of accident prevention and management enjoyable and rewarding. Until now, the emphasis of your scuba training has been on you and your buddy. The Rescue Diver course will help show you how to make diving safer and more enjoyable for yourself and others.

In the Rescue Diver program, methods to foresee, prevent and manage potential diving problems are introduced. This course is demanding, though realistic in conduct, content and approach.

During class, the Rescue Diver manual, video and discussions are used to develop your knowledge of diver physiology and psychology, potential sources of equipment malfunctions and steps necessary to manage an accident scene appropriately. There are five class sessions, each about two hours long.

From assisting a tired diver to handling possible emergency scenarios, pool time is spent practicing and applying knowledge and skills that can make a difference if a problem occurs. Skills are developed step by step, beginning with recognizing and preventing potential accidents, recognizing problems when they occur, performing rescues of conscious and unconscious divers and taking charge of an accident scene to maximize a positive outcome.

Open water dives are conducted to provide realistic situations where use of all of your rescue and accident management skills can be further refined.

The PADI® First Responder course (or equivalent) trains you in medical First Aid and Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation. It is a prerequisite for the Rescue Diver course. As you learn accident management, you will apply First Aid and CPR skills to the unique needs of diving. By the time the PADI@ Rescue Diver course is completed, you will be a confident and qualified first-responder, whether an accident occurs in or out of the water.

The charge for the Rescue Diver course is $300 per person. This includes all books and materials and use of equipment. It does not include the Medic First Aid course.
